The beginning
No matter what stage of life I have been in - student, wife or mother - my passion for creating and drawing has been a constant companion. Horses were my first passion, from the moment I could hold a pencil I was drawing them. In later years, I painted furniture, clothes, glass and dabbled in papier-mache.
Why I started painting
In 2011 my show horse "broke" (don't worry, Luke's living the Life of Riley out at our ranch). That year, as I tried to rehabilitate him. I found myself with a LOT of spare time so I pulled out the starter-set of acrylic paints my husband had given me the year before. It was love at first stroke!
How I learned
To be honest, I learned how to mix paint by watching YouTube videos. I am self-taught through trial and error and technology. But if I am anything, I am tenacious! I paint almost every night usually starting around 6pm until I make myself stop around 3am. Needless to say, morning calls will NOT be answered!
Why I paint
Painting is a passion. I need it like I need air to breathe or like that first cup of coffee in the morning. The first is necessary and the second just makes life so much sweeter. So I paint, a lot. It's really a good thing I have such an incredible family that supports my addiction passion (and that my kids were old enough to get themselves onto the school bus when this all started - The rule was: If there isn't any blood, don't wake your mother up).
Why I paint what I paint
Why all the animals, you ask? Well, to me, every animal is a therapy-dog. They calm and soothe my inner-self. Bringing them to life on a canvas is magical, spiritual, esoterical (forgive the poetic license) - pick a word, it fits.
What I hope you get out of it
My hope is that when you see one of my paintings you don't just see a pretty picture but an animal with a personality. When you look into their eyes, are you looking at them or are they looking at you?
My husband, Dominic, and I moved to Oklahoma in 2004 where we've raised our two children and own a 100-acre ranch where we have horses, cattle, donkeys, sheep, chickens and dogs.
